Generative Knitting is a new project by Stephanie Pan where knitting and mathematics are combined. Together with a team of programmers, Stephanie develops new knitting patterns based on algorithms. This project aims to present traditional handicrafts, and in particular knitting, as applied science and takes a step in updating the aesthetics, sensitivities and possibilities within the global knitting community, through technology. Highlight Delft, in collaboration with Stephanie, offers you the opportunity to contribute to this special research!

During these special Stitch ‘n Bitch sessions, Stephanie invites enthusiastic knitters to knit with her to test and develop these new patterns. Together you will look for solutions to convert these computer-generated patterns into real, 3-dimensional, tangible garments and together we will elevate the art of knitting to higher mathematics.

Will you take on the adventure of taking the craft of knitting into the 21st century? We’d love to see you in The Student Hotel Delft on Tuesday nights!
