9 years of highlight

Nine years ago, Highlight began as a spark, an experiment between art, design, and technology that lit up the streets of Delft. What started as a small showcase of student projects and local makers has since grown into a festival that transforms the city into a living lab of light, movement, and imagination.
Over the years, Highlight has hosted everything from interactive soundscapes and kinetic sculptures to robotic choreography and large-scale projections on Delft’s historic walls. Each edition has drawn curious visitors into unexpected encounters, in attics, tunnels, churches, and bridges, proving that innovation doesn’t just belong in the lab, but in the streets where people meet.
From early prototypes that blinked and buzzed to internationally acclaimed works exploring climate, AI, and perception, the festival has evolved while keeping its heart the same: to connect art, science, and community through wonder.
As we look back on nine years of experiments and late-night discoveries, one thing remains clear: Highlight has always been more than a festival, it’s a glimpse into what happens when curiosity takes over the city.
